Frequently Asked Questions
Card Compatibility
What size cards work with the Lotus Shuffler?
The Lotus Shuffler is designed for standard poker-sized playing cards (2.5" × 3.5"). Height is more critical than width. Cards shorter than standard height will likely jam, while cards taller than 3.5" won't fit in the device.
Does it work with bridge-sized cards?
It can, but results vary. Bicycle-brand bridge cards often work, but others do not. The critical factor is whether the cards have enough texture for the rollers to grip. Completely smooth or glossy bridge cards may slip and fail to shuffle correctly.
Will it work with board game cards?
This depends on the size and texture of the specific board game cards. Many board games use non-standard card sizes that may be too small for the shuffler to handle properly. Cards must be close to standard size (2.5" × 3.5") and have sufficient texture to work well.
Does it work with sleeved cards?
We've received mixed results with sleeved cards. Most sleeved cards don't fit because they are too wide. Some customers report good results, while others experience jamming or inconsistent shuffling. Success depends on the style, texture, and thickness of the sleeves. Standard sleeves on standard-sized cards have a better chance of working than double-sleeved cards or sleeves on non-standard card sizes.
Does the Lotus Shuffler damage cards?
We've built the shuffler with gentler materials at key contact points, especially where cards exit. The design minimizes bending and friction. In general, it's gentler than traditional mechanical shufflers. That said, if your cards are extremely worn or already delicate, any automated shuffler can exacerbate edge wear.
What types of cards work best?
Cards with textured surfaces (like most standard playing cards from brands like Bicycle) work best. Cards need to have enough texture to create air pockets underneath, allowing the rollers to grip them properly. Completely smooth cards or cards without these air pockets may not work well.
Does it work with plastic cards?
Yes, the shuffler works well with 100% plastic playing cards that have appropriate texture. Standard plastic playing cards like Copag or KEM brands have been tested successfully.
Product Features
What's included with my Lotus Shuffler purchase?
The Lotus Shuffler device, a 9V battery (pre-installed or included separately), and basic instructions. (We occasionally offer a special edition that includes a deck of our custom Lotus playing cards, but please check our product listing for details.)
How many decks can the Lotus Shuffler hold?
It holds and shuffles up to two standard decks of cards at once.
How does the shuffler work?
The Lotus Shuffler uses an "inverse riffle" technique. Instead of splitting the deck in half and then combining it card by card, it first shuffles the deck card by card into two piles, and then the user stacks the two piles to recombine the deck. This method is mathematically proven to be an effective shuffling technique and allows for a more compact design.
How loud is the shuffler?
Expect a noise level somewhere between an electric toothbrush and a small spice grinder. It's considerably quieter than most conventional card shufflers on the market, but you'll still hear the motor and cards exiting the device.
What powers the Lotus Shuffler?
A standard 9V battery. We opted for a removable battery design to make replacement simpler and avoid permanently built-in batteries that degrade over time.
What is the shuffler made of?
The Lotus Shuffler is made from high-quality plastic, then coated with a special paint normally found on premium headsets to protect the coating from scratches and fingerprints. Internally, the shafts, motors, and much of the gears are steel. The rollers are made of silicone instead of plastic or rubber for durability. We also have touch sensors to activate the device, eliminating the need for physical buttons and creating a more elegant user experience.
How do I use the Lotus Shuffler?
Open the shuffler, place your deck(s) in the center, touch the button to activate the shuffler. The shuffler will split the deck between the two sides. Combine the two halves and repeat as desired. For optimal randomization, repeat the process 3-7 times.

Maintenance & Care
How do I clean my Lotus Shuffler?
To clean your Lotus Shuffler: Dampen a cloth with a non-abrasive cleaning agent, hold the cloth against the side touching the roller, start the shuffler for one or two cycles, repeat on the other side. This process allows the rollers to effectively clean themselves while in motion. Don't use abrasive cleaners or immerse the shuffler in water.
How long does the battery last?
The included 9V battery should last for 500+ shuffles under normal use. If you notice the machine sputtering or not fully ejecting cards, this is often a sign that the battery needs replacement.
